20 years in pre-production
My name is Rob Scott. During the day, I am a professional software engineer and CTO at my company. In the evening, I am a husband, father, and a wannabe filmmaker. I have been a film lover for years, and every time I see a bad one, I think to myself, “I could make a film better than that.” (Right after, “I’ve used soaps that left a better film!”)
Around 1999, I began to think seriously about making a film. As I write this, 9 years have elapsed, and I probably have 11 more to go. There are two reasons I am taking so much time:
- Skills
- My family
- Money
I am not egotistical enough to think I could make a great film right now, nor could I instill much confidence in investors. So I plan to make short films over the coming years, and work up to full-length films. I have a young family, and they need me to be home. Plus, I need time to improve my financial situation.
My blog will document the ups and downs of this process, plus tools and tricks that I have found. It’s going to be a great journey!

Rob Scott,
Thank you for all your hard work! A dream of mine is to have an open source video editor! Your work has helped me to visualize that dream (at least for the time being,) and once I get all the hurdles out of my workflow, BlenderAVC may be the magic key to my video editing!
I wish to be eternally grateful to your blood and sweat and compassion for all of us who dream the dream but do not have the tools to make it real.
You the man,
God bless,
-b
